A sensitive portrait of one of the most important eras of Austrian history – from Austria’s Allied occupation until the re-establishment of full sovereignty with the State Treaty in 1955. Erich Lessing portrayed politics as well as a new emerging society and the revival of the cultural scene in post-war Austria. Text contributions by well-known personalities like Gerd Bacher, Alexander Giese and Ludwig Steiner.

Joseph Haydn's grave was robbed shortly after his death
by "phrenologists",who hoped to learn about his genius
by studying his skull. After lenghy negotiations the Society of the Friends of Music decided to hand over the skull to Burgenland for re-uniting it in the sarcophagus with Haydn's torso. The Provost-Invest of Eisenstadt-Oberberg, Prilate Dr. Josef Koller, during the solemn dedication in Eisenstadt's Bergkircke, Austria, 5 June 1954.

The Austrian State Treaty brought the allied occupation in Austria to an end. It was signed on 15 May 1955 by John Foster Dulles (USA), Harold Mcmillan (Great Britain), Vyacheslav Molotov (Soviet Union), Antoine Pinay (France) and Leopold Figl (Austria).
