A sensitive portrait of one of the most important eras of Austrian history – from Austria’s Allied occupation until the re-establishment of full sovereignty with the State Treaty in 1955. Erich Lessing portrayed politics as well as a new emerging society and the revival of the cultural scene in post-war Austria. In an unprecedented incident the soviet member of a four-power international military police patrol tried to steal the patrol's american car and escape with three soviet kidnappers which his patrol had arrested in the american sector of Vienna.The american member of the patrol forced the soviet member out of the car at gunpoint, but had to turn over the military policeman as well as the three kidnappers to the Soviet authorities, according to four-power regulations.
