Schoenbrunn Palace seen from the entrance courtyard. Dated August 16, 1759, the painting shows a courier (running, in white) who brought news of the victorious battle of Kunersdorf, when the Austrians beat King Friedrich II of Prussia during the Seven Years War (1756-1763). The Seven years War was the first global conflict with two main fronts: in Europe between Austria and Prussia over Saxony, overseas the colonial rivalries between Britain, France and Spain in America and India. The Austro-Prussian war ended with the treaty of Hubertusburg (February 15th 1763)when Silesia became part of Prussia. Canvas, 135 x 135 cm Inv.1666
