Oliver Cromwell was was an English military leader and politician. After leading the overthrow of the British monarchy, he ruled England, Scotland, and Ireland as Lord Protector, from December 16, 1653 until his death, which is believed to have been by either malaria or poisoning. After his burial he was exhumed and hanged, drawn and quartered, which was the traditional punishment for treason in England.

Louis, dauphin de France (1729-1765), was the eldest and only surviving son of King Louis XV of France and Queen Marie Leszczynska, and thus heir apparent (dauphin) to the throne of France. The dauphin Louis died of tuberculosis at Fontainebleau in 1765 at the age of 36, while his father was still alive, thus never becoming king of France. His eldest surviving son Louis, duke of Berry, became the new dauphin, and later ascended the throne as Louis XVI at the death of Louis XV.
