Gold medal of Captain James Cook. Chosen as captain of the "Endeavour" by the Royal Society, he found and chartered New Zealand and the East Coast of Australia. In two more voyages, Cook discovered several islands in the Pacific, but was murdered by the Polynesian natives of Hawaii in 1779.
This medal was commissioned by the Royal Society in 1780
