Jade pectoral, Olmec, Mexico. Middle Preclassic period
(1000 - 600 BCE. This pectoral was carved by an Olmec artist and reused by the Maya, as shown by the two Maya glyphs on the left side. The edges framing the head indicate that it could also have been part of a larger pectoral. Olmec jade objects have been found throughout Mesoamerica and as far
south as Costa Rica. Ethno, 1929.7-12.1

The Fenton Vase, from Nebaj,Guatemala. Late classic period, 600 - 800 CE. Polychrome ceramic vessels were a symbol of status and power for the Maya and are found as offerings
in rich burials. The scene on this vase represents the delivery of tribute to a seated lord. Above the basket presented to him are six hieroglyphs giving his name and titles. Their jewelry, clothing and spangled turbans adorned with flowers suggest the persons are members of the elite.

Black limestone mask, Santiago Ahuizotla, Mexico. This stone mask, found in the basin of Mexico, displays a wide forehead and stylized planar features typical of the Teotihuacan style. Designs are carved on the cheeks, representing facial painting and it was perhaps originally inlaid with shell or other material. Several artefacts from Teotihuacan were found at the Templo Mayor of Tenochtitlan (Mexico City). They were brought to the capital from different regions as tribute following warfare and conquest.
