Primrose Waltz composed by A.G. Tarbet showing the portrait of Benjamin Disraeli, Lord Beaconsfield (1804-1881), Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. Upon his death on 19 April 1881, Primrose Day was instituted in his honor, as the English primrose was his favorite flower. Queen Victoria sent bouquets of primroses to his funeral. The Primrose League was formed in 1883 by admirers of Benjamin Disraeli, who had died two years earlier. Its aims were to promote Conservative Party principles and imperialism. Lithograph published by James Smith & Son, publishers to the Queen; London, 19th century.
