Cross of Timotheos, Egyptian, late 14th. This iron benedictional cross was found in Timothos' grave,although burials at this time were usually without funeral gifts. Clerics were buried in their robes of office, but Thimoteos was buried in his travelling clothes and may have died on his trip to take office at the cathedral of Qasr Ibrim in Nubia. In his grave were also found two "letters of appointment" by the Coptic patriarch to his new See, dated 1372. EA, 71955

Bronze shrine figure, Irish, early 12th century. The bearded figure depicts either an apostle or a saint. He is dressed in a bishop's robes decorated with fine scrolled spirals and geometric patterns. The arms project from the slender body and the hands hold a holy pose with the index finger and thumb touching. Although the decorative detail on this figure is essentially Irish, the form of the figure shows the influence of Romanesque art from continental Europe. It reflects a period of contact overseas and local reform in the church in Ireland, when a regular pattern of bishoprics was established. It is said to have been found on the site of the monastery of St John, Dublin. M&ME, 1868,7-9,52

The Mahant (the high priest of the Shiva temple, Tarakeshwar) holds a 'nargila' pipe and sits on a striped rug in front of the temple, a second man, perhaps his agent, Kinaram, behind him. Before him stand three women -Elokeshi, the young wife of the clerk, Nabin Chandra Banerjee, holding up a plate of rice or sweetmeats in her left hand and boldly unveiling her face with her right; her younger sister, Muktakeshi, unveiled, stands behind her with folded hands; between them in the background, Telebo, the female servant of the family who acted as procuress, looks away. Peter the Hermit shows the crusaders the way to Jerusalem during the first crusade. From the manuscript "Roman du Chevalier du Cygne". Peter the Hermit (died 1131) was a priest of Amiens, and a leader of the First Crusade. According to Anna Comnena, he attempted to go on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem before 1096, but was prevented by the Turks from reaching his destination.
