Fowling in the marshes; fragment of a wallpainting from the
tomb of Nebamun,Thebes. 18th dynasty,around 1350 BCE.
Nebamun stands on a small papyrus boat, with his wife Hatshepsut behind and his son below him. He lets fly a
throwstick into a mass of birds above a papyrus thicket.
Despite his modest title of "scribe and counter of grain"
Nebamun could afford an expensive tomb. EA,37977

Counting the geese: mural from the tomb of Nebamun, from
Thebes, 18th dynasty, around 1350 BCE. In the lower register a scribe holds up a papyrus scroll, presumably a
census of Nebamun's geese; his writing tablet is tucked under his arm; behind the scribe a man brings a group of geese in a cage, and behind him is a large flock of geese.
Scenes of watching agricultural activities were intended to convey the importance of the owner of the tomb. EA,37978

Head of a falcon.
This is a votive object belonging to a gold statue of the falcon Horus, patron deity of Hierakonpolis (near Edfu), the predynastic capital of Upper Egypt. It's head was executed by means of beating the gold then connecting it with the copper body. A uraeus is fixed to the diadem which supports two tall openwork feathers. The eyes are inlaid with obsidian.

Sandstone frieze from the first cathedral at Faras, Sudan,
early 7th. The sandstone block formed part of a decorative frieze in the apse of the sanctuary chamber.Between the
pillars, under a Coptic cross, stands a dove or eagle; both birds were important symbols of Egyptian and Nubian
Christianity. Before being flooded by the new Lake Nasser in
1964, the site of Faras was excavated by a Polish expedition
and the remains of spectacular buildings were discovered, including cathedrals. EA, 606

Cup,Mesopotamian, late Prehistoric period, 3.400 to 3200 BCE.he cup is carved on either side with a figure naked except for a belt and with his hair parted in the centre. The figure holds two bulls around the neck, on which perch large birds. The meaning of this image is unclear:the man may be protecting the animals, or he may represent the struggle between chaotic savagery and divine order.
