Stone mace head, possibly from Tello (ancient Girsu), southern Iraq, Kingdom of Lagash, 2400-2300 BCE. This mace head is too large to have been attached to a staff and used in battle and is probably an object dedicated in temples. An eagle grasps two lions.

A young man visits a dervich.
The topic of the visit to the hermit was often exploited by Iranian and Indian artists. Several Persan poems put in contrast the character of the prince and that of the hermit. This painting is a page of an album and one does not know if it acts as an insulated piece of work or as a page taken from a manuscript. It can be put in connection with one of the episodes of the poem of Helali, the King and the dervish, composed about 1505, which tells the story of the friendship between a young prince and an ascetic.
