"The Manner of their Fishing", John White composed this scene by basing it on several studies combining three methods of fishing used by the Algonquin Indians. They used a dip net and spear, by night a fire in a canoe to attract the fish to the boat, and fish weirs. The fish are hammerhead sharks, catfish, king crabs, skate or ray and a sturgeon to be found between the mainland and the Outer Banks of North Carolina. PD 1906-5-9-1 (6)
